From Indian Icon to European Streets: Bajaj Auto’s Bold Ride into Barcelona

For many Indians, the name “Bajaj” evokes memories of family rides on the iconic Chetak scooter, a symbol of reliability and pride. Now, this emblem of Indian ingenuity is making its mark in Europe, with Bajaj Auto inaugurating its first European dealership in Barcelona’s Eixample district.

A Strategic European Entry

Bajaj Auto, established in 1945, has grown into one of the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturers. With a robust global presence, including partnerships with KTM, Husqvarna, and Triumph, the company has sold over 21 million units worldwide. The Barcelona showroom, spanning over 250 square meters at 64 Carrer d’Aribau, offers a comprehensive customer experience, featuring dedicated delivery areas, a community zone, workspace, product displays, and an accessories section.

Tailored Models for European Riders

The initial offerings in Spain include the Dominar 400, a sport-touring motorcycle suitable for A2 license holders, and the Pulsar NS 125, designed for younger riders or those with a category B license. Both models aim to attract consumers with their dynamic design and strong value for money. Looking ahead, the company plans to launch the Pulsar NS400Z in spring, equipped with advanced features such as ride-by-wire throttle, traction control, riding modes, and an inverted front fork, positioning it as a top contender in its category.

“The Pulsar NS 125 Euro 5 is built to effortlessly navigate city streets while delivering an electrifying riding experience,” Bajaj says about the model it is pitching as a first motorcycle for enthusiasts.  “With its muscular design and agile performance, this motorcycle is easy to maneuver and park, making it the ideal companion for those embarking on their motorcycling journey,” Bajaj says about the mean machine it is pitching as a first two-wheeler for enthusiasts.  The bike comes with a five yar Bajaj guarantee.

Embracing Electric Mobility

Bajaj’s European roadmap includes the upcoming release of the Chetak, a fully electric scooter. The Chetak, named after the legendary horse of 16th century hero-king Maharana Pratap, was reintroduced in an electric avatar in 2019. It features a 3kWh motor producing 16Nm of torque, powered by an IP67-rated lithium-ion battery pack, offering a range of up to 95 km per charge. The scooter boasts full-LED lighting, a Bluetooth-enabled instrument cluster, regenerative braking, and two riding modes. The Chetak’s design has been patented in Europe, signaling Bajaj’s commitment to expanding its electric vehicle footprint on the continent.

Navigating a Competitive Landscape

A Vision for Sustainable Growth

With plans to open 35 dealerships in Spain and 10 to 15 in Portugal within the first quarter of 2025, Bajaj Auto is positioning itself as a significant player in Europe’s motorcycle market. Barcelona, known for its mobility culture and openness to innovation, provides a fitting backdrop for this new chapter in the brand’s global journey.

As Bajaj Auto accelerates into the European market, it carries with it a legacy of innovation, reliability, and a deep connection to its roots—promising a ride that’s both nostalgic and forward-looking.
